Surroundings: Middelburg, Zeeland

Middelburg, capital of the province of Zeeland, is an attractive, proud city with a rich past. Beautiful canal houses, winding alleys, a late Gothic town hall and the 'Lange Jan' tower: there is plenty to admire in Middelburg.

Middelburg was once one of the trading cities of the VOC. As you walk through the old city center, you will feel as if you are taking a journey back in time. Stroll to the Koepoort, the only one of the eight old city gates still standing, and visit the "Kloveniersdoelen", the beautiful building from 1607 that once housed the militias.

In the center of the city is the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe abbey, which dates back to the year 1100 and which today houses the Zeeuws Museum, among other things. All aspects of the history of Zeeland are discussed on the basis of 30,000 objects. Another special attraction is the ninety meter high abbey tower "Lange Jan", which can be seen from a great distance. Especially on sunny days, a climb is very worthwhile, because of the fantastic view over the Walcheren peninsula. Don't forget to visit the late Gothic town hall from the 15th century and the market.

On this beautiful Zeeland island you will find a special nature with clean beaches and you will never get bored. There are many cycling options, picturesque villages, cozy restaurants and in addition to the many water sports activities, there are also plenty of indoor activities.

In its heyday, Veere was a powerful trading town where a lot of shipping trade with Scotland was conducted. Today, the town on the Veerse Meer still has a beautiful marina and the many buildings remind you of its heyday. There are not only the old streets with warehouses, but also many authentic shops, boutiques and souvenir shops which are also open on Sundays. In addition, the Campveerse tower, Scottish houses and the imposing church are worth a visit.

Delta Park Neeltje Jans
To prevent the disaster of 1953, the Delta Works were carried out. The Neeltje Jans Delta Park gives you an impression of the works and the power of the sea. But it is not only technology that can be seen here, there is also a sea lion show, an aquarium and a water park. Something for everyone, young and old.
